What Is Dermaplaning, and Is It Right for You?

If you have seen "dermaplaning" on a spa menu and wondered what it actually is, you are not alone. It is one of the most asked-about treatments, and it is simpler than it sounds.

What dermaplaning is

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation. A licensed esthetician uses a fine blade, held at a gentle angle, to lift away the dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your face. The same pass removes the soft, fine hair often called peach fuzz.

There are no harsh scrubs and no acids. It is a slow, careful treatment done by hand.

What it does for your skin

Once that top layer of dull, dead skin is gone, a few things tend to change:

  • Skin looks smoother and brighter
  • Products can sit more evenly on the skin
  • Makeup tends to go on more smoothly

Results are about the surface of the skin, so think of dermaplaning as a refresh, not a fix for deeper concerns.

A common worry: will the hair grow back thicker?

This is the most common question, and the answer is no. Fine facial hair removed at the surface grows back the same way it was before. Dermaplaning does not change the hair or the follicle.

How it fits into a visit at Heaven Sent Beauty

At Heaven Sent Beauty, Jayslyn Tramp is a licensed esthetician trained in dermaplaning. There are a few ways to have it:

  • The Dermaplaning Facial. A facial built around dermaplaning to exfoliate dead cells and peach fuzz for ultra-smooth, radiant skin.
  • As an add-on. Dermaplaning can be added to another facial.
  • Inside other services. It is part of the Ultimate Firming Facial, which also uses LED, and part of the Full Face Rehab package with brow lamination and a brow wax.

What to expect

Every visit begins with a quiet conversation about your skin and your goals. Then the treatment is tailored to you, using professional, botanically-based Skin Script Rx products. Jayslyn sees one client at a time, so there is no rushing.

Afterward, protect your skin from the sun, as you would after any exfoliating treatment. You will also leave with a simple way to carry your results home.

Is it right for you?

Dermaplaning suits many skin types, but it is not for every situation. Tell Jayslyn before your treatment if you have active breakouts, irritated or sunburned skin, or skin that is very sensitive. You will talk it through together at your consultation, and she will tell you honestly whether it is a good fit today or whether another facial would serve you better.

If you are not sure, a Customized Facial is a good starting point. It is tailored to your skin's needs.
